Small birds make great pets, particularly for kids, as birds are very interesting, easy to care, need very little space and inexpensive to buy and maintain. With proper training, small pet birds can show a lot of affection on their owners, just like cats and dogs.
The small pet birds take care of their grooming needs, most of the time and are less demanding. Small pet birds like parrots and macaws are very intelligent and even a high quality pellet feed generally costs only a few dollars and offers all the nutrients needed to maintain good health.
Lovebirds are one of the smallest known parrot species and are little and beautiful. Finches and canaries are another popular type of small pet birds. These types of small pet birds need lesser space than other types of bird species.
It is good if small pet birds are given attention because a bird cannot be left in its cage alone, all the time. Some type of birds need more human interaction than others and need a small amount of time each day, to play with them.
While bringing a small pet home, it should be given due thought if there are other pets in the house that could be threatening to the bird. The cage must not be placed in direct sunlight and must be large enough for the bird to move about. It is better if the cage is not kept in a corner of the house but near family activities, if you want the bird to be a member of your family.
