Dogs and cats are the most common small pets preferred by many people but there are many other options, while deciding to buy a small pet. Fish, birds, reptiles and amphibians and even insects make great small pets. Choosing the right pet depends on the lifestyle of the pet owner.
There are many factors that decide the lifestyle and ultimately, the choice of small pet depends upon the amount of time that can be allotted towards the small pet, the cost of maintaining, whether members of family are allergic to the small pet and consensus of the family members on the choice of the pet.
If more time cannot be allowed to devote to the small pet, the option must be to find a small pet that needs less time to care for, such as, pet insects and reptiles. Also, small rodents like mice or guinea pigs do not take much of the owner’s time.
A small pet must be opted such that it is liked by the kids of the family, as well. It is not enough if only the elder members like the pet. There are pets that require more financial investment and if it is not affordable, smaller pets such as lizard that need only a few crickets each week, can be opted for. The cost includes the vet bills too.
Whether it is a small pet warranting a lot of your attention or less attention, basically, the pet owner has a commitment towards it and it has to be fulfilled, at any cost.
